, on November 19, 2020 the district will present a draft Fiscal Recovery Plan which will include scenarios of potential reductions and changes to the district budget. The Fiscal Recovery Plan will come back to the Board for adoption on December 10.

Dear Sac City Unified Community,
Since I joined the District in 2017, I have repeatedly communicated about our precarious fiscal situation. Our District is operating under a structural deficit, which means our expenses exceed revenue.
Sac City Unified School District Opens Learning Hubs at Six School Sites
City of Sacramento and community based organizations support small student learning groups
SACRAMENTO 鈥� The Sacramento City Unified School District announced that six learning hubs have opened at school sites throughout the district. These hubs, organized in partnership with community-based organizations and the City of Sacramento, provide small groups of students with distance learning assistance and other activities. Each learning hub is open to 40 students. Students given priority to participate in the learning hubs are children of essential workers, students with special needs, foster youth, and students experiencing homelessness.

SACRAMENTO 鈥� Sacramento City Unified School District today announced that record numbers of its students had completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) last school year.
鈥淲e want every Sac City Unified student to graduate college and career ready, and to have the widest array of options when they graduate,鈥� said Superintendent Jorge Aguilar. 鈥淐ompleting the FAFSA expands students鈥� access to college. This school year we hope to break our record again when all Sac City Unified seniors complete the FAFSA.鈥�

SACRAMENTO 鈥� Sacramento City Unified School District鈥檚 Phoebe Hearst Elementary was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a for 2020. The recognition is based on the school鈥檚 overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
Sac City Unified Urges Student and Families to Watch for Warning Signs of Suicide September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
Sacramento 鈥� As part of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, Sacramento City Unified School District urges parents and students to seek mental health support during COVID-19 health pandemic. The district encourages students and parents to learn about signs of distress, and how to ask for help. This includes educating families on the intersection of suicide, mental health, and substance and alcohol abuse.

Good attendance and engagement is even more essential to student achievement and graduation because of the lost opportunities to learning that have occurred as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
